Growing up in Canada’s stunning coastline region, Orianna fell deeply in love with the water at a young age. Despite coming from a non-captain family, her love of the sea spurred an unyielding desire to become a captain herself. Orianna bucked social expectations and pursued her dream of controlling her own fate in a field that was typically controlled by men. She embarked on her goals after completing the necessary certificates and training, becoming a licensed captain and opening the door for her all-female crew.

On her journey to becoming a charter captain, in spite of 50-knot gusts, unexpected squalls, and relentless storms, Orianna managed to steer her ship with confidence and grace. Even if there were times when the conditions looked insurmountable, she persisted because she knew that fear and anxiety had no place under her control.
When an anchorage was lost because of the ferocious weather, she had to re-anchor among the roaring gusts and smashing seas. It was impressive to see the boats surrounding her drag anchors into one another and towards the beach. It served as a stark reminder of the sea’s unrelenting strength and the value of learning seamanship.
